Located in Christianshavn in Copenhagen, this beautiful house started life as a smithy in the late 1600s. Now it’s a lovely blend of original architecture (such as the open fireplace) and modern touches, it was completely renovated by the owners themselves.
The color scheme they used is neutral, kinda muted with just a couple of touches of color like a lavender curtain or a yellow sofa, and that makes the interiors very peaceful and relaxing. A truly Scandinavian feel is in each room thanks to the use of white color and Dinesen heart oak for floors, beams and furniture.
The owners love exploring antique shops and flea markets, where most of the furniture in the living room was found, except for the sofa, which was a new piece. This sunny yellow item creates a positive ambience around and looks contrasting in the neutral living room.
The open fireplace, which was originally the heart of the forge, is used not only for décor and warmth but also for cooking. The kitchen is made of Dinesen heart oak, which was also used to decorate around the house. The original wooden beams were renovated throughout the house including kitchen to give the home a cozy and refined look.
The bedroom is serene, airy and full of light, here nothing distracts attention from sleeping and relaxing by a wood stove, which provides warmth and coziness. Simplicity and declutter are the keywords in this attic bedroom with exposed Dinesen oak beams. A single Y-chair next to the stove gives character to the room.
Even the bathroom in this home is serene and full of light due to the windows and cool sink cabinet made of the same Dinesen heart oak.
Most of the furniture in the living room was bought as flea markets and antique shops except for the sofa. Exposed beams are very noticeable here too.
The master bedroom is an attic space with exposed wooden beams, a wood hearth and Dinesen oak floors, very peaceful and relaxing.
