Creating the first space for your child can be tricky, especially when you are a parent-to-be and have a lot of things to decide at the same time. How to design an exciting space that would be also functional and comfy both for a child and parents? Here are some tips that may help you to decorate the nursery the best way possible.
Build Around The Theme
Choose a theme for the nursery: let your imagination go wild and have fun sticking to the theme and colors. When you are decorating an adult space, you can’t get so much fun because there are usually no themes but here you can make a whimsy room. Bright colors, bold prints, colorful artworks and large decor pieces are welcome if they fit the theme.
If it’s a girl’s space, you can go for princess, vintage, shabby chic and some other cute girlish themes, and as for colors try shades of pink and various pastels. Boys’ spaces are often designed with ocean, aviation, space and other themes like that, the colors are black, grey, navy. Need a gender neutral space? Try rustic, animal, travel or adventure theme or just go for neutral shades that are suitable for everyone. Of course, these ideas aren’t rules and if you like blue and have a daughter, there’s no problem in designing a blue-shaded space for her.
Choose Functional Furniture
Functional furniture is a right decision, whether the room is small or not, such furniture will save space, money and so on. Think cool transformable cribs and creative and playful toys with a function: shelves shaped as animals or trees to play with, hide a changing table inside a dresser or an armoire, hang some pockets or baskets on railing to store anything you need. Don’t forget about yourself – buy a comfy chair or armchair with a footrest – believe me, you’ll need it!
Provide Storage
Kids need a ton of stuff, and it means you’ll have to get much storage space and items. Built-in storage is always a great idea, especially for many spaces. Dressers with open shelves and baskets are welcome to store everything from books to toys, and a pegboard over a changing table will let you store a lot on it. Open shelves store much though don’t look bulky, and the underthebed space can be used, too! Get some more cool ideas below!
