What do we think about when decorating a garden or another outdoor space? First of all, landscaping, second, furniture and only third, decor and small details but the latter are those that can really create an ambience, a mood and inspire. Such little details are textiles: towels, pillows, blankets, tableware if you have tables, rugs and decorations and sometimes such details can be birdhouses, bird feeders and other wildflife attractions to fill your space with birds’ songs or beautiful butterflies.
Birdhouses and feeders are traditional, I can’t name a garden feature that would be older than them. Welcoming birds makes our gardens more inviting, we can enjoy watching and listening to them, and even your pets will enjoy watching birds. DIYin a birdhouse, a feeder or a whole arrangement of these is a great way to personalize your outdoors a lot and make it cozier. We’ve gathered a bunch of beautiful rustic birdhouses and feeders that can easily match a cottage, rustic or even woodland-inspired garden, and some of them can fit a fairytale one, too, take a look!
Wicker Birdhouses
Wicker pieces are my favorites because they look cute and cozy and they can match a modern farmhouse or rustic space. If you take natural materials, the disadvantage may be that they won’t last too long but still will be very sustainable. If you take plastic wicker, this piece will really last for long having a similar to natural look. Go for creative shapes like drops or spheres, or style the birdhouse in a more traditional way, like a real house – it’s up to you and what you like. If you are making a bird feeder, you can just make some wicker cups on stands or again go for smaller drops with food inside.

Wood Birdhouses
Wood is the most popular material for building a birdhouse, and there are lots of DIYs on the web that will tell you how to easily make one using just some wood, nails and glue. The main interest here is decorating, I bet, and here the possibilities are endless, you can realize your wildest dreams! Fairy cottages, wood cabins, traditional stained houses, various decor like moss, branches, faux ladybugs and even planted greenery and succulents on the roof – that’s not even all! Choose the look and colors according to the style of your space and hang the house on a tree or even install a whole tiered cottage on a stand. As for pros and cons, wood is very sustainable and natural, not very long-lasting, especially if you are living in warm and humid climates but it looks cozy and cool.

Small Tips
Remember that if you have cats who can walk in the garden, you shouldn’t install bird feeders and houses too low, hang them high on the trees and make the space around clean for the birds to see who’s approaching. The tree you are choosing shouldn’t have branches that are comfortable for climbing, otherwise the birds can get hurt and your cat, who can fall off this tree, too.
