France is famous for its impeccable taste and unique style that can be recognized every time and everywhere – both in clothes and decor. French chic immediately makes the space refined and exquisite, and I’m talking not only about French country style – modern French homes have their own peculiarities, too. Many of us would like to add that chic to their home or to even to style the whole space look like a French home – not exactly Provence or country style but modern. How to do that? Here are some tips that may be of use.
Fuse Eras
Mix contemporary and vintage or classic elements in one space to make your space more refined and French-styled. This way you won’t have to match too many parts and you’ll get a contemporary and chic look at the same time. Take a vintage apartment and restore moldings on the walls, ceiling and maybe fireplace and then fill the space with contemporary, minimalist or mid-century modern furniture and art for a contrasting and chic look. No molding? No problem, add some yourself – as much as you like creating a vintage-inspired backdrop.
Keep It Neutral
Opt for neutral colors and shades, infuse the interior with gilded decor if you feel like it to achieve that timeless French look. Neutrals have many advantage, for example, they make any space look larger and airier, which is essential for any room. Second, they create a nice backdrop for adding furniture and art of any kind. Third, you can easily accent neutrals and create a contrast with them – add dark furniture and art, or go for classic gilded touches, for example, gilded picture frames or furniture legs, and voila!
Add Antique Items
French style is anyway about something exquisitely vintage – we can’t imagine even a modern Parisian space without a couple of antique finds. So feel free to add some vintage units like art, furniture or maybe a fireplace, which can be restored or decorated in a chic way. You won’t need many: just one item or a couple of them are sometimes enough to create a gorgeous Paris-inspired ambience. If you can’t buy some designer’s or vintage pieces, just make some furniture that would be styled like that. Get inspired by the ideas below and enjoy!
