Ever dreamed of staying in a charming little Irish cottage? This white house with a red iron roof is an incarnation of such a gorgeous home. It’s set in the remote lakeside town of Treangarrive in County Kerry, lost within a wilderness of emerald green farmland and cloud-shrouded mountains. Let’s take a look at it.
What was once a humble refuge for local mountain goats has been turned into a dreamy vacation home. New larch roof timbers were foraged from the forest behind the cottage. The mud floor was stripped back and lime rendered, dressed with furnishings crafted from local Douglas Fir. Whitewashed rustic interiors offer a stylishly simple shelter from the elements.
The dining, living room and kitchen are united into one open space, which isn’t big but very cozy: there are rough wooden beams and rough whitewashed walls. The seat beside the fire is the best for witnessing dramatic cloudscapes and moon shadows whip over Caragh lake. The bedrooms are separated from this space and made more private. I totally admire the master bedroom with a panoramic window – what can be better for enjoying the views? The second bedroom is for two, it features rustic vintage furniture and an antique hearth that brings that cool rustic feel.
Such a gorgeous cottage with a pastoral landscape around it will be an amazing place to relax and forget about all the problems, and the peaceful surroundings will help with that.
