Original shapes of unusual materials always attract attention, and this cabinet is right one of these things. Piega Cabinet by Katrina Ennamorato simulates paper folds in solid walnut (‘piega’ means ‘fold’in Italian), suggesting “a box which has been crushed and remained in a tense form.” The piece is crafted with a combination of handwork and CNC machining and darkened with a vinegar and steel wool solution. Solid wood rather than metal drawer slides used to increase the integral lifespan of the piece. The material and the design make the cabinet look rather futuristic and surrealistic, it’ll become a cool accent piece in any modern interior.
