Combining two opposite things in one is art, especially if these two things in one look stunning and complement each other. Today we are sharing a fantastic furniture piece that mixes modern technologies and ancient material, and when I say ‘ancient’, I really mean it!
Riva 1920 presents classic furniture pieces alongside new designs, none made more significantly than with kauri, an ancient wood from New Zealand. Displaying the highest expression of authenticity and craftsmanship, a quality shown no matter what type of wood the Italian brand are caring for. The table top places the 50,000 year old kauri wood into a resin setting, making the material appear to float above the tubular base which was designed by architect Renzo Piano.
Reflecting a stylized image of our world map, the Riva 1920 ‘earth’ table’s kauri continents float in the transparent ocean of resin. The use of the formerly liquid substance creates a fascinating interplay of light and shadow. The top sits upon a tubular base made from dark iron, with its welding clearly visible. Look at the photos of this gorgeous table, it’s just fantastic!
