If you don’t have enough outdoor space but still want a garden, some fresh veggies or herbs, some beautiful blooms, there’s a solution to the problem: a vertical garden. Being a series of vertical planters standing or attached to the wall, a vertical garden can give you the desired things without stealing your precious space. Here are some ideas of such gardens.
Wall Vertical Gardens
A wall vertical garden is perhaps the coolest idea to get some greenery, blooms and herbs without sacfiricing any floor space. What you need to do is to attach your planters to the wall somehow, and here there are several ways to go: attach a grid or a holder, attached planters themselves or hang some planters on a special hanger or shelf. The way, its design and look depend on the style of your outdoor space. My favorite designs are pipes on the wall that act as planters (paint them bold to make the look more eye-catching) and grids with planters that can easily double as privacy screens when in need and can be moved from place to place. If you are a DIYer, you can make some wall shelves of pallets or attach some planters to the wall to achieve the look you want.

Picking the right plants for your vertical garden is very important. Different plants need different things to grow well. Here are some great choices for vertical gardens that are easy to take care of and look fantastic.
Basil, mint, parsley, thyme and other herbs grow well in small spaces and smell great.
Petunias, marigolds, nasturtiums, begonias, impatiens, fuchsias and some other flowers are colorful and easy to grow.
Succulents are perfect for sunny spots. Plants, like hens and chicks or jade plants, don’t need much water and grow well in small containers.
Boston ferns, maidenhair ferns, and bird’s nest ferns are great for shady areas and add a lush, green look.
You can also grow vegetables in your vertical garden. Here are some that work well:
Cherry tomatoes are small but very tasty. They grow well in hanging baskets or planters.
Lettuce and spinach are easy to grow and perfect for salads.
Radishes grow quickly and doesn’t need much space.
Chili peppers can thrive in a vertical garden with enough sunlight. They are also useful when cooking.
